CASTLE LEAD WORKS www.castlelead.co.za
Castle Lead Works manufactures anodes, sheet, pipe, tubes, wire and other items from lead. It is South Africa's largest manufacturer of lead products.
Lead is ideally suited to roofing as well as sound insulation, corrosion protection for plant used in the manufacture of sulphuric acid, and radiation shielding in X-ray laboratories and nuclear power stations.
Modern techniques in alloying lead have resulted in customer-specific products.
Castle Lead Works dates back to 1933, when it started a factory in Cape Town. Today the company is located in Krugersdorp, near Johannesburg, and has modern lead-extrusion presses, rolling mills, casting facilities, a refining and metal recovery plant and large workshops.
Castle Lead Works has an enviable safety record and is sensitive to the concerns of environmentalists. Its operation is virtually pollution free since production depends on metallic lead rather than ore reduction.
